Oris is a Swiss watch brand with a great history, especially in the world of aviation.
Founded in 1904 in Hölstein by Paul Cattin and Georges Christian, this company is among the world's leaders in the creation and fabrication of automatic and chronograph watches. The founders named their company after a nearby brook. What makes Oris unique is that the brand is known to produce only mechanical watches and therefore have no quartz timepieces in their current line. Many celebrities like Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra, Mark webber - already chose for an Oris model around their wrist.
Let us give you a little piece of history:
In 1938, Oris introduces its first pilot's watch, which has a characteristic big crown and a Pointer Calendar Function. This model takes its name from the oversized crown, which has an advantage for pilots as they could adjust the watch wearing leather gloves. During the years, aviation becomes one of the four 'Oris Worlds' *.
In 1968, Oris received a chronometer certificate from the observatory of Neuchâtel for their 652-calibre.
In 2010, the company develops a unique safety clasp that stops a watch from falling of, even if it comes undone. The clasp also features a clever quick-adjust system that can be operated without taking the watch off.
