Important player in the watch Industry: Swatch Group

Swatch Group

If you name a Swiss watch brand, apart from Rolex, there is a chance it is owned by the Swatch Group. One of the very few big watch groups that are busy swallowing up watch companies in the same way a dog likes to chew up its candy. Watch brands owned by Swatch Group today are:

  • Prestige range: Breguet, Blancpain, Glashütte Original, Harry Winston, Jaquet Droz, Léon Hatot and Omega.
  • High range: Longines, Rado and Union Glashütte. Middle range: Tissot, Balmain, Certina, Mido, Hamilton, Calvin Klein Watches + jewelry.
  • Basic range: Swatch and Flik Flak.

The Swatch group is the largest watch enterprise in the world, active in the design, manufacture and sale of finished watches, jewelry, watch movements and components. This massive titan reported a net sale of 8.46 billion Swiss francs in 2013 and 8.17 billion alone came from watches and jewelry. Swatch group owns 18 brands of whom Breguet is the most expensive but Omega the most popular. Omega even takes the third place of the largest Swiss watch brands. Another reason why the Swatch Group became so big and powerful in the Swiss watch industry is due to the many component makers it possesses. Movement maker ‘ETA’ has the biggest role in this success and leads the Swatch Group to the most important supplier of watch movements to the Swiss watch industry. Swatch Group provides nearly all components required by its 18 watch brands. But this large group also supplies movements and components to other watchmakers around the world. Swatch Group claimed its place at the top of the watch industry as it also fabricates electronic systems used in watchmaking and many other industries.
